Wanted: SunglassesLast week proved to be a solid week to hit up your waiver wires, as we’ve seen an increase in play from David West, Troy Murphy, and Stephen Jackson.  While last week’s article focused primarily on the trade between the Warriors and Pacers, this week takes a different turn and mentions several players from the same team – the Boston Celtics.  It’s getting ugly in Beantown, as most fans can’t remember the last time their Celts have brought home a win.  However, fantasy potential can be found underneath the current mess that is the Boston roster, and owners need to exploit these opportunities.  Now, on to this week’s recommendations…

Chris Bosh
But I’d love to know if he’s just in the zone, or if it’s a product of a weak supporting cast?...Scott Sargent

Sarge wrote this about Chris Bosh as part of his Sargent Says feature last week, after basking in the glow of another season of 24 kicking off. I am sure it is hard to keep up on Raptor news south of the border for obvious reasons. So here’s a friend helping a friend out.

Every so often on Dime Day, “Four Quarters” will feature one particular NBA team, going ten players deep into their roster. Whether it’s a small tidbit of news on the benchwarmers, or an opportunity to give major props to the all-stars around the league, as always we slant it towards the fantasy side of life.

With the return of Dr. A, I’m happy to let you all know that all four members of DroppingDimes.com were able to give you insight this week to who should be in your lineups for week 13.  A special “about time” sigh of relief to owners of Carmelo Anthony, who is slated to be back in the rotation for the Denver Nuggets.  Of course, we’ve yet to see how he’ll play along side Allen Iverson - but needless to say, he should be in your fantasy linuep this week.  For the rest of the NBA, here’s a look at how many games each team plays this umcoming period…

Atlanta Hawks - 4; Boston Celtics - 4; Charlotte Bobcats - 4; Chicago Bulls - 4; Cleveland Cavaliers - 4; Dallas Mavericks - 3; Denver Nuggets - 4; Detroit Pistons - 3; Golden State Warriors - 3; Houston Rockets - 2; Indiana Pacers - 4; Los Angeles Clippers - 4; Los Angeles Lakers - 3; Memphis Grizzlies - 4; Miami Heat - 4; Milwaukee Bucks - 4; Minnesota Timberwolves - 4; New Jersey Nets - 4; New Orleans Hornets - 4; New York Knicks - 4; Orlando Magic - 3; Philadelphia 76ers - 4; Phoenix Suns - 4; Portland Trail Blazers - 3; Sacramento Kings - 4; San Antonio Spurs - 4; Seattle Supersonics - 3; Toronto Raptors - 4; Utah Jazz - 4; Washington Wizards – 3

POINT GUARDS

No real tiering at the one slot this week.  There’s a distinct grouping between the top four and then “the rest,” but I’d be happy with any of these guys in my PG slot for this week.  You should be too.

Steve Nash frequents the #1 slot
1. Steve Nash (1.00)
2. Jason Kidd (2.50)
3. Gilbert Arenas (3.25) - Three games this week, but still a top option

7. Stephon Marbury (8.25) - Coming off of a nice stretch
8. Baron Davis (9.00)

Dirk NowitzkiStat’s All Folks will be a week-to-week stock market look at the standard cumulative categories – points, assists, rebounds, three-pointers made, steals, and blocks.  I’ll be calling out the “bulls” and “bears” in each category, in order to help you assess your portfolio of players on your fantasy basketball team(s) and whether you should sell, hold, and/or diversify your assets.

Note that you won’t always see the superstar player written about in this column, otherwise it would be LeBron James or Steve Nash every week.  So, check out who’s bullish and who’s bearish coming into the week.

Statistics are from January 12 - January 19th.

POINTS

BULLISH

Dirk Nowitzki, PF, Dallas Mavericks
Last Week’s Numbers of Note: 4 G; 34.5 PPG; 51.6 FG%; 87.5 FT%

How does Nowitzki come back from a poor 11-point performance against the less than impressive Portland Trailblazers?  Score a season-high 43 points the next game and continue to hang points on the opposition in the next three games, which Dirk did in the past week.  Not only has he been impressive shooting the ball, but rebounding it as well averaging 10.8 glass cleaning in the same period.  Nowitzki is going good right now in all facets of his game, which is helping his stroke.  Obviously, don’t ever worry about low-scoring performances from Dirk (did you know he had two games where he only scored six points!) because he isn’t an elite fantasy player for nothing and will definitely come back strong.

Mikki Moore's been one of the best waiver additions of the yearWire to Wire aims to be your waiver wire resource for all of your fantasy basketball needs.  It will dive into playing time trends, injury replacements, and even an occasional category specialist – all of which can be found on a typical waiver wire within your fantasy league at any given time.

With the recent eight-man deal that has been completed by the Indiana Pacers and Golden State Warriors, several players have seen an increase or decrease in value.  We’re also starting to see some of the injured stars make their way back to their respective practice floors, soon to be found in a game near you!  This week’s Wire to Wire will break down the return of a few of those stars, the recent trade, and which players involved can be found on waiver wires across the fantasy hoops universe.  Let’s dig in…

(Note: I’ve been having some internet issues lately, so for the sake of time, we’re going to get right in to this week’s recommendations.  I apologize for the inconvenience!)
